Daily Attendance Process
1. When a child cannot attend school, whānau are required to communicate with the office stating the reason why they are away. Each school day, if your child is away and we have not heard why: the office will make contact. If the office does not hear a response, the child will be marked as truant unless a forthcoming explanation is received.
2. Each school day is divided into two half days. The class roll is taken at the start of the day and immediately after lunch. The office monitors the rolls to ensure they are carried out twice a day.
3. Each day, like all other schools in Aotearoa, New Zealand, the attendance data is automatically fed to the Ministry of Education who track our school attendance and students who are late.
4. Each term the Tumuaki/ Principal receives an attendance report showing reasons students were away through the various attendance codes used for absence. This report is shared with the board each term. Our attendance management process outlining the Merivale School Te Kura o Tūtarawānanga procedure is currently being implemented
